Message-ID: <3B3A529A-059D-4BFE-A5C4-EB708D4741F8@haun-online.de> Two weeks ago, I finally updated my blog (which was stuck on some customised 1.7.something) to 1.8.1. I also wanted to allow Twitter OAuth logins, only to discover that they don't work any more in 1.8.1. So I ported over the fix from 2.0.0, threw in the fixes for MySQL 5.5 compatibility and cherry picked a few more that seemed useful and non-invasive. I'm wondering if we should release this as Geeklog 1.8.2. I don't want to delay 2.0.0 any further and I don't think it would - it's just a question of packaging it and putting it up on the website. With the compatibility breaks in 2.0.0, I would assume some people are hesitant to upgrade just yet, especially if they depend on an incompatible plugin, so a last 1.8.x release would be useful for those, especially if it fixes bugs. Plus, we haven't done a release in over a year! What do you think? The changes are in the geeklog_1_8_0_1 branch in the repository now. I could do the release after Christmas if there are no objections. The only changes in 2.0.0 would be to the install script and the documentation. I can do those, too. bye, Dirk P.S. We should put an article up on Geeklog.net with the release stating that these db options will be dropped eventually if no one wants to step up and help out with testing, etc.. for MSSQL and Postgres For 2.0.0 we can leave the code in but disable the 2 options in the install. If by near the end of the release for 2.0.1 no one has helped out we pull the code. Just an idea... So it lets you define tasks that you need to perform on a regular (or not-so-regular) basis. We had a presentation[1] about it at our local PHP user group recently and it made me wonder if we shouldn't use it to automate our tasks like running the unit tests, packing up the nightly tarball, or preparing the release packages. All of these tasks are already automated in our Jenkins, but implemented with some of my infamous Bash scripts, which aren't exactly easy to understand and maintain. I've only played around with PHING but managed to whip up a short and readable package job. I guess what I'm looking for right now are best practices and experiences - dos and don'ts and the like. I also had to mess with the database a bit to get the user management back into a working state. Looks like I also fixed the signup for new users in the process. Let me know if you experience any other problems now. bye, Dirk -- http://www.themobilepresenter.com/ From websitemaster at cogeco.net Mon Dec 31 12:37:49 2012 From: websitemaster at cogeco.net (Tom) Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2012 12:37:49 -0500 Subject: [geeklog-devel] PHING In-Reply-To: <3B1BF88C-D94C-40E5-973B-0D20AD667E61@haun-online.de> References: <3B1BF88C-D94C-40E5-973B-0D20AD667E61@haun-online.de> Message-ID: <015801cde77d$8d4fadf0$a7ef09d0$@cogeco.net> No experience with PHING here.
