We need to explain the new Geeklog 2.0.0 theme engine, why it changed, how it works and what has changed (template wise and code wise with the new functions). We should also mention that the older theme engine (1.8.1) that relies on Com_SiteHeader and Com_SiteFooter will eventually be phased out. We also need to update the theme page found in the Geeklog docs. I have already started but a few other things probably need to be added Anything else? I think we should certainly apply again. So, can everyone (not just potential mentors) please review what we have on our GSoC page on the wiki: http://wiki.geeklog.net/index.php/Google_Summer_of_Code Please check if the proposed projects are still relevant or if they need to be updated with regards to new features or changes in Geeklog 2.0.0. Also feel free to propose new projects. For this, you can use http://wiki.geeklog.net/index.php/GSoC_Brainstorming as a starting point (there are some good ideas there that would need to be expanded upon to make them into fully fleshed out proposals). In general, we are looking for projects that - add useful, possibly often-asked for features to Geeklog - will keep a student busy for 3 months - are doable by someone new to the project - have a good chance to be done and integrated(!) by the end of GSoC Given our lack of integration of previous successful GSoC projects, I think the last point is very important and something that we should try and enforce this year. Being integrated into the then-current Geeklog version should be part of it being considered a success. I think we should be aiming for 3 or 4 slots, i.e. student projects (should we be accepted). So we need at least 3 mentors and as many co-mentors. I'll volunteer to take on the admin role again, but would need a co-admin. Anyone up for this? There have been a few minor changes to the program this year. I'll have another look, but the most obvious change is that everything happens a month later this year. Please take this into account when applying for any role. Just wanted to check: - What do people think of this? - Can anyone think of any potential licensing problems? I know that, for example, the Wordpress people had some fights over commercial templates vs. the GPL. Our themes are mostly HTML and CSS (i.e. not code, so no GPL there), except for a tiny snippet of PHP code in functions.php. Personally, I'm not opposed to the idea of commercial themes. Just wanted to check what others think and also that we don't have any potential problems lurking here (like we have with commercial plugins). bye, Dirk > Von: Geeklog > Betreff: Spam post at Geeklog > Datum: 22. On a related note, after Geeklog 2.0.0 is out the door, forum is updated, etc.. and I start working on the redesign a bit I would like to promote more theme development within the community. Visual appealing themes go a long way in promoting the CMS it is for. The first is the Topic section which I will take care of (http://wiki.geeklog.net/index.php/Topic_Support). The second is the Theme section (http://wiki.geeklog.net/index.php/Theme_Developers_Guide).
