Maybe this feature would be better implemented in GL2.  You don't want 
to give away all the bells and whistles on the older product after 
all... plus I don't want to have to upgrade to a new version just to 
turn it off, in order to get the few feature enhancements I do want.  
;-)  GL2's explicit modularity could probably handle this rather well?
