Sounds good and won't create any valid email addresses on accident.
The only remaining issue I see is the length of it all. It looks like
Blogger, for example, allows up to 50 characters for the username. Add
the @blogger and we have a username that's a whopping 58 characters long.
Other services may use even longer names (the TypeKey registration form
didn't stop me entering 100 characters, although I don't know if they
would have accepted such a long name).
For some reason, I'd prefer usernames to stay short. So how about we
shorten them to 16 characters (Geeklog's current limit), but extend the
username field to hold 32 characters in total (that would leave room for
the @ and up to 15 characters for the service name), and make sure
Geeklog still only accepts 16 characters.
Thoughts? Am I making things too complicated again?
