Thanks for the reminder - this new colo machine is teaching me to remember 
stuff I long since decided not to bother with. I've got so used to php with 
error reporting turned on.
This colo box uses Plesk, and that seems to give some pretty restrictive 
policies in place - like resticting the open_basedir so that it's impossible 
to include pear stuff. Argggg, I new I should have just colo'd my own box :)

Hey guess what ?
Once things have access to the pear packages things work fine on the colo box.
