Google's Adsense crew called me today. Apparantly they would like us to
use Adsense on gl.net. I had a problem using them because they had
essentially banned me. The guy I talked to undid that mess and I can
now use it again (though I'm not sure I want to on ia.org).

Anyway, I guess this means we could do it on gl.net if we wanted. I'm
not opposed to the idea but don't have a strong desire either. Would it
be worth trying it to see what we get? Maybe it will pay for the first
annual Geeklog Conference in Hawaii (after 10 years)?

Maybe run a poll a on gl.net asking what people think? Depending on
what results we see I certainly don't see a problem with it, but I
would hate to alienate a large number of users of something that I
don't feel any of us feel very strongly about...

Of course if someone does feel strongly one way or the other I'll go
with along. :)

Tony,

Same here. With the webserver being sponsored, we don't have any real
running costs to cover, so there's no real need to do it.

The question is also where we place them. On the front page? In the
forums only?

Maybe Vinny is right and we should run a poll first.

I have no idea what to expect in terms of revenues. IF (big if) we do it,
we should also limit it to, say, 4-8 weeks first and see what comes out of it.

bye, Dirk

FYI It took a good 6 months for adsense to tailor the adds to my
websites for them to begin to make any money. Now they are paying the
bandwidth costs only.
