Richard,

While you're welcome to modify your version of Geeklog to open links
in new windows, the developers are not interested in modifying Geeklog
to support this. The reasons are mostly philosophical, but amount to
us finding the practice of opening links in new windows obnoxious.

Dirk is an especially strong advocate of this. See these forum posts
for an example:
http://www.geeklog.net/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=3&showtopic=37598 and
http://www.geeklog.net/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=3&showtopic=23334.
There are many others if you care to search for them.
