thats a good point.
It would probably make sense to have the allow php option turn off the
editor.
this would be similar to how the blocks work.
as for the story editor, I do not think that you would want a HTML
editor in there either, but GL is more than just an engine for news
sites. It may not be the core goal of GL, but most of the sites I
install GL on do not even use the news functions.
I may be the odd one out, but I think that some sort of editor done
properly would greatly increase the possibilities for GL
