MAY 2008 MEETING OF THE WHITMAN COUNTY DEMOCRATS
May 14, at the Holiday Inn Express on Bishop Blvd. in Pullman 6:30-8:30
pm. Note that this is scheduled to be a special 2 hour meeting because
we have so many things to discuss. Please show up a little early so we
can start on time.
There is a proposed resolution regarding nominating conventions that
will be considered before the nominating convention. The text of that
resolution is included below.

Resolution Regarding Nominating Conventions

WHEREAS, the Nominating Convention process laid out by the Washington
State Democratic Central Committee in 2005 were not written in a manner
that allows for practical implementation or full participation of
Democrats in a jurisdiction;
WHEREAS, the Democratic Voters throughout Whitman County should have the
responsibility and privilege of selecting the best Democratic Candidate
running for each partisan office during a regular election cycle in
their jurisdiction;
WHEREAS, it has been the responsibility of the Washington State
Democratic Central Committee Chair to foresee and resolve any issues
arising from the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Initiative
872;
WHEREAS, the Washington State Democratic Central Committee Chair has
failed in his responsibilities to foresee and resolve issues arising
from the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Initiative 872
resulting in the disenfranchisement of millions of Democrats in
Washington State and the disempowerment of Democratic Organizations
throughout Washington State in selecting the best Democratic Candidate
running for each partisan office;
WHEREAS, the Nominating Convention process laid out by the Washington
State Democratic Central Committee in 2005 concentrates too much power
in the hands of Washington State Democratic Central Committee Chair
without allowing for adequate checks and balances by the Washington
State Democratic Central Committee;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Whitman County Democrats refuse to
participate in the Nominating Convention process;
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Whitman County Democrats will
not acknowledge the nomination of any candidate running for partisan
office in Whitman County by any person or organization except by a
partisan primary election or caucus allowing for the full participation
of the Democratic voters of Whitman County.
