When you go diagonally, your mouse is passing over another top line
menuitem or moving off the Core menu item which collapses the dropline
menu. It's just using CSS and activated bu the on-hover link. I could
add some JS to introduce a on-hover delay so the dropline menu would
stick for a fraction of a sec and give you time to get the mouse down to
the dropline should you not move straight down first.
