[geeklog-devel] Geeklog Comments

Thanks for looking into it Vinny.

The links must be from Geeklog 1.6.1 as Webmaster tools do not report any
from the time before I upgraded (unless they recheck the link and update the
date).

I reviewed the code as well and the comment function handleview grabs the
cid for view mode and the pid for display mode. I didn't see anywhere else
that it could be different.

Tom,

Is there any chance that Google cached those links from before you're 1.6.1
upgrade. If I recall, when I revamped the comment system I organized the
direct linking to comments and comment trees to be more consistent. At that
time I may have removed the "mode=display" links.

I dug through the code, and couldn't find anywhere that currently creates
links with the "mode=display" for links specifying a cid.

I recently updated a Geeklog site from version 1.6.1 to 1.7.1

I was using Google's Webmasters tools and noticed that I have a number of
Soft 404's under Crawl Errors found after my update was performed.

Taking a look I notice that most deal with comments (on staticpages). Here
is a typical url that was not found

http://www.mysite.com/comment.php?mode=display
<http://www.mysite.com/comment.php?mode=display&cid=1303> &cid=1303

This url actually will redirect to the homepage since for it to work the
"mode" should be "view" like so:

http://www.mysite.com/comment.php?mode=view
<http://www.mysite.com/comment.php?mode=view&cid=1303> &cid=1303

I did check Google Search results and the view version of the link can be
found.

What I am not sure is if this is a bug and Geeklog 1.7.1 is displaying these
incorrect urls somewhere. I checked my sites search result and I turned the
comment view to threaded and they both produced the correct link. Is there
anywhere else Geeklog produces links to comments? (I can't think of any off
the top of my head)
