It is the same bug, actually. So kudos for finding it first and even proposing the same solution. Too bad it slipped through the cracks :-/

The plugin is actually disabled during the upload of the new version, but then re-enabled for the automatic upgrade. I think if we can make this work automatically, then we should do it, to make plugin updates as simple as possible. Plugin installation and updates seem to be a common cause of confusion and problems among our users - I'd like to address that.

The upgrade process works now, we're only missing an extra bit of security, which we'll address in a future Geeklog version.
