Thanks for your feedback.  

Yes GL2 will use PEAR:DB (not to mention a lot of other PEAR modules).

Code for GL2 is written in disconnected parts so far.  We hope to tie in 
what we have here yet this month, finalize what license GL2 will be 
offered under and then make the CVS code public.  Stay tuned.
